Dani Ceballos will remain at Real Madrid after a potential move to Marseille fell through. The Spaniard is back in the squad and reportedly ready to fight for his place. Head coach Xabi Alonso confirmed the midfielder’s future is now settled.
Marseille Pulls Out
Ceballos was close to joining Marseille this summer. An agreement had been in place between the French club and Real Madrid. However, the deal collapsed after Ceballos reportedly hesitated to commit.

Alonso Confirms: “He’s Staying”
Speaking at Valdebebas, Alonso said:
“I spoke with Dani the other day. This situation has been resolved: he’s staying. What I thought before this last week and what I think now doesn’t change. Ceballos is another member of the squad, and I’m happy he’s here.”
Alonso added that the midfielder will continue in the same role he was originally expected to have. How much he plays? “Nobody knows, not even me,” Alonso joked.
Betis Rumours Quashed
After Marseille dropped their pursuit, speculation linked Ceballos with a return to Real Betis. Alonso has ruled out any move before the transfer window closes on Monday, keeping the midfielder at Madrid for now.
What’s Next for Ceballos
Ceballos is reportedly ready to fight for his place. Real Madrid will listen to offers meeting their €15m (£13m/$16m) price tag but are happy to retain him.
He could feature in Madrid’s next La Liga fixture against Mallorca on August 31, giving him a chance to prove himself under Alonso.
