Thomas Tuchel has been dealt a fresh injury setback after Jarell Quansah was forced to withdraw from the England squad ahead of Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Latvia.
The Bayer Leverkusen defender suffered a knee injury and returned to his club as a precaution, according to a statement released on Saturday.

“Jarell Quansah will miss England’s forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Latvia through injury,” the statement confirmed. “The Bayer Leverkusen defender returned to his club as a precaution following Thursday’s 3-0 victory over Wales. No further squad additions are planned at this moment in time.”
Quansah, 22, has yet to make his senior debut for England despite being called up to five separate camps under Tuchel, Lee Carsley and Gareth Southgate.
England defeated Wales 3-0 on Friday thanks to goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins and Bukayo Saka. Marc Guehi and John Stones started in defence, with Myles Lewis-Skelly replacing Stones midway through the game.
A win over Latvia on Tuesday could see England secure qualification for next summer’s World Cup with two matches to spare, depending on results elsewhere in Group K.
