Sweden’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are on the brink ahead of facing Kosovo in Gothenburg on October 13.
Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side have collected only one point from three Group B matches, following a 2-2 draw in Slovenia, a 2-0 defeat in Pristina, and a 2-0 home loss to Switzerland.

Much of the attention has centred on Alexander Isak, who recently completed a Premier League record-breaking move to Liverpool. After limited minutes in September, Tomasson again raised concerns about the striker’s match fitness.
Despite those doubts, the Sweden boss handed Isak the captain’s armband for the first time against Switzerland, though the 26-year-old failed to register a shot on target.
Viktor Gyokeres also struggled in attack, extending a difficult run since his move to Arsenal, with neither forward finding the net in Stockholm.

On paper, Isak and Gyokeres boast a combined 31 international goals, but their recent form tells a different story. Isak has scored a goal for Liverpool, while Gyokeres has three goals in seven league appearances since joining from Sporting CP.
Tomasson, however, remains confident in his strikers, confirming both will feature against Kosovo as Sweden look to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
