Anthony Gordon has given a brutally honest reflection on his England form, admitting he’s only performed at “50 per cent” for the national team so far.

The Newcastle winger has featured in every Three Lions squad under Thomas Tuchel and was one of the standout players in last month’s 5-0 win over Serbia.

One performance is not enough. I’ve probably been at 50 per cent in an England shirt,” Gordon said. “I’m nowhere near where I can get to, but I’m feeling more comfortable every time I play.

The 23-year-old has made five appearances and played 669 minutes under Tuchel but believes he’s only scratching the surface of his potential.

Gordon added that competition for places keeps him motivated, pointing to the surprise omission of Jude Bellingham as proof that no one is guaranteed a spot.

The moment you start thinking you’ve got a place in the team, you’ve probably got a problem,” he said. “You’ve always got to challenge yourself, because the lads you’re competing with are always at the highest level.

With the 2026 World Cup in North America approaching, Gordon hopes to secure a regular role as England prepare for upcoming matches against Wales and Latvia.
