Mohamed Salah PFA Player of the Year

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has etched his name into football history by winning the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year award for a record third time.

The 33-year-old Egyptian star, who first claimed the honour in 2018 and again in 2022, became the only player to secure the award three times, surpassing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Kevin De Bruyne and Gareth Bale, all of whom had won it twice.

Salah’s stunning 2024/25 season under new Liverpool boss Arne Slot saw him net 29 Premier League goals and provide 18 assists, firing the Reds to their 20th league title. Across all competitions, he recorded 34 goals and 23 assists in 52 appearances, numbers described by Salah himself as part of the “best season of my career.”

“Doing this at the age of 33 is incredible,” Salah said at the awards ceremony in Manchester, as quoted by Goal. “I remember not making it at Chelsea, and that stays in your mind. But coming from Egypt, making it at the top level, and now making history — I’m very proud.”

Liverpool dominance at the awards

Salah was joined by teammates Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, while summer signing Milos Kerkez was also included after a breakout campaign.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers won the PFA Young Player of the Year, becoming Villa’s first winner since James Milner in 2010. In the women’s category, Arsenal’s Mariona Caldentey claimed the PFA Women’s Player of the Year, while Olivia Smith was named the Women’s Young Player of the Year following her move from Liverpool to Arsenal.

A career-defining moment

Salah’s achievement is particularly significant given his journey. After struggling during an early spell at Chelsea, he rebuilt his career in Italy with Fiorentina and Roma before becoming a global superstar at Liverpool, where he has already lifted the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and multiple individual awards.

His latest recognition comes just months after he signed a two-year contract extension with Liverpool, ending speculation about a possible move to the Saudi Pro League.

What’s next?

Liverpool have begun the 2025/26 season strongly, and Salah is expected to be central to their title defence. Having already scored in the opening-day win over Bournemouth, he continues to chase Premier League scoring records — currently tied with Andy Cole in fourth place all-time with 187 goals.

As reported by ESPN and Al Jazeera, Salah is now the first player to ever complete a clean sweep of the Premier League Golden Boot, Playmaker award and Player of the Season in the same campaign — underlining just how decisive he remains, even in his thirties.
