Turkish giants Fenerbahce have confirmed Domenico Tedesco as their new head coach, stepping in to replace Jose Mourinho, who was dismissed just two weeks ago.

The club made the surprise decision to part ways with Mourinho, who had only taken charge in July 2024 following the departure of Ismail Kartal.
Despite his reputation as “The Special One,” Mourinho could not deliver a league title, finishing second behind rivals Galatasaray for the third consecutive season.
Why Mourinho Was Sacked
Speaking on the managerial change, Fenerbahce president Ali Koç explained that while Mourinho brought valuable experience, the club wanted a more attacking and dominant style of football.
“We knew our coach’s philosophy when we appointed him, but at the end of the season, we felt the need for a different approach,” Koç said.
He also stressed that there were no personal issues with Mourinho, adding:
“Our chemistry was excellent, and his achievements speak for themselves. Bringing him here was a major success, and parting ways was not easy.”

Fenerbahce Appoint Domenico Tedesco
With Mourinho’s departure, the Yellow Canaries have moved quickly to secure Domenico Tedesco as their new manager.
The 38-year-old has signed a two-year contract, joined by former club captain Gökhan Gönül as part of his coaching staff.
The club’s official statement read:
“Domenico Tedesco has been appointed as the new head coach of our professional football team. He has signed a two-year agreement, and the details of the signing ceremony will be shared soon.”

Tedesco’s Managerial Background
Tedesco began his managerial career in 2013 and has previously coached several big clubs, including Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig, where he won the DFB-Pokal in the 2022/23 season.
He also spent two years as head coach of the Belgium national team, parting ways in January 2025. This makes Fenerbahce his first club role since leaving the international stage.
With Tedesco now at the helm, Fenerbahce fans are hopeful he can finally end Galatasaray’s dominance and deliver the Turkish Super Lig title back to Kadıköy.
