Aston Villa have re-signed midfielder Douglas Luiz on loan from Juventus, with an option to buy in the summer. [Sky Sport report]
The 27-year-old returns to Villa Park just 18 months after leaving for Serie A, with any permanent deal expected to cost significantly less than the £43m fee Juventus paid in 2024.
Luiz was keen on a return to Villa, where he enjoyed the happiest spell of his career, despite reported interest from Chelsea.
Villa moved for midfield reinforcements after injuries to Boubacar Kamara, who is ruled out for the season, along with John McGinn and Youri Tielemans.
Luiz spent this season on loan at Nottingham Forest but struggled for minutes, starting just five Premier League games and playing 318 minutes in total.
He remains under contract with Juventus until 2029, but his Forest loan did not trigger a permanent move due to limited appearances.
Villa are currently third in the Premier League and still competing in the Europa League and FA Cup, with Luiz expected to strengthen Unai Emery’s midfield options during a crucial part of the season.
