FC Barcelona have officially confirmed that the club’s presidential elections will take place on March 15, a key moment for the institution’s future.
There are currently four official pre-candidates: Joan Laporta, who is seeking re-election; Víctor Font, runner-up in 2021; former board member Xavi Vilajoana, who also ran in the last elections; and Marc Ciria, who is standing for the first time.
Alongside the election date, the club also confirmed that an Extraordinary Assembly of Delegate Members was approved during the Board of Directors meeting held on Thursday, January 22.
At the assembly, delegate members will be asked to ratify several major agreements, including the renewal with Spotify until 2030 for shirt sponsorship and until 2034 for the stadium naming rights, the extension of Barcelona’s EuroLeague licence for a further ten years, and the introduction of a new sponsor on the back of the first-team shirts, replacing ACNUR.
The exact date of the assembly has not yet been confirmed. Although it was initially expected to take place on the weekend of February 7–8, the club has decided to hold it after the elections, allowing more time to explain the agreements and organise the process.
In its official statement, the club said:
“The FC Barcelona Board of Directors met this Thursday in an ordinary session to adopt the following agreements:”
Regarding the elections, the statement added:
“The Board of Directors has agreed to call elections for the presidency of the Club on Sunday, March 15, 2026. In the coming days, and in accordance with the deadlines established in the FC Barcelona Statutes, the official call will be published, including the calendar and all details of the electoral process.”
On the EuroLeague agreement, the club confirmed:
“The Board of Directors has agreed to ratify the extension of the licence for the men’s basketball first team to participate in the EuroLeague for the next 10 seasons (until the 2036–37 season), a competition of which the club is a founding partner.”
Finally, on sponsorships, the statement concluded:
“The Board of Directors has approved new sponsorship agreements, details of which will be communicated in due course, and which in some cases will need to be ratified by the Assembly of Delegate Members when appropriate.”
