Senegal will face hosts Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations final after both sides won their semi-finals on Wednesday night.
Sadio Mané scored the decisive second-half goal as Senegal edged Egypt 1–0 in Tangier, ending Mohamed Salah’s hopes of lifting the trophy.
It was another familiar outcome between the former Liverpool team-mates, with Mané again coming out on top following previous victories in the 2022 AFCON final and World Cup qualifying play-off.
The defeat extended Egypt’s wait for a first AFCON title since 2010, despite their record seven triumphs.
Later in the evening, Morocco reached the final after beating Nigeria 4–2 on penalties following a goalless draw after extra time.
Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was the hero, saving spot-kicks from Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi before Youssef En-Nesyri converted the decisive penalty.
The hosts have now reached their first AFCON final since 2004 and will look to end a 50-year wait for continental success, while Senegal aim to add a second title to their 2022 triumph.
