Courtois dismisses Real Madrid dressing room unrest claims

Thibaut Courtois has dismissed claims of unrest at Real Madrid, insisting the Bernabeu dressing room remains “positive and happy” despite growing speculation in the local press.

Reports had suggested tension between Xabi Alonso and several senior players, but Courtois told Cadena Cope those stories have been blown out of proportion.

“There’s always more noise outside than inside,” he said, adding that criticism after “just a draw” is nothing new for the squad.

The goalkeeper highlighted the draw result at Rayo Vallecano, saying trips to Vallecas are “always difficult” and noting the team must improve ahead of a tough month, including a key match against Elche.

That draw followed a defeat to Liverpool, where Courtois made eight saves. Alonso said the match was decided by details, and Courtois agreed, explaining the team had control in the first half but struggled to create danger after the break.

He also backed Vinicius Junior following his El Clasico outburst, saying the issue is “closed and accepted” after the Brazilian apologised to the team and coaching staff.

Courtois reflected on the change from Carlo Ancelotti to Alonso, calling the former “like a father or grandfather” and describing Alonso as “more modern,” while stressing it would be disrespectful to claim the squad misses Ancelotti.

He insisted there is no crisis internally, even if some players are naturally unhappy about playing time.

“In our team, everything is discussed openly; there are no problems,” Courtois said. “If we need to impose order, I’m one of those who can do it, but we haven’t needed to. We’re all pulling in the same direction.”
