Liverpool suffered a major setback during the first half of their Champions League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt as Jeremie Frimpong was forced off injured.
The Reds travelled to Germany already missing Giovanni Leoni, Alisson Becker and Ryan Gravenberch, with Curtis Jones recalled to the starting XI at Deutsche Bank Park.
Arne Slot’s side featured Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike together for the first time, but the manager’s plans were disrupted inside 20 minutes.
[Sky Sports reports] Frimpong went down off the ball and immediately pointed to his hamstring, signalling a problem that saw him replaced by Conor Bradley.
The summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen had made a bright start, adapting well to Slot’s dynamic setup before his night was cut short.
It adds to a frustrating beginning to life at Anfield for the 24-year-old, who has struggled with injury and completed 90 minutes just twice since joining the club.
Bradley, who came on in his place, is one yellow card away from a Champions League suspension ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Real Madrid in 13 days’ time.
If Frimpong fails to recover, Slot could be left without either of his senior right-backs for the visit of the European champions a major concern for Liverpool’s manager.
