Messi bodyguard Yassine Cheuko floors YouTuber and slams MLS ban

Lionel Messi bodyguard Yassine Cheuko has gone viral once again but this time not for stopping a pitch invader, rather for taking down YouTuber Jeremy Lynch in a one-on-one football challenge.

A former Navy SEAL and martial arts expert, Cheuko has been protecting Messi since the Argentine’s arrival at Inter Miami in 2023. Co-owner David Beckham insisted the World Cup winner needed top-level security, and Cheuko has been by his side ever since.

U.S. stadiums often lack the tight security seen in Europe, and pitch invasions have become a regular occurrence whenever Messi plays. Cheuko’s lightning-fast reactions have stopped countless fans from reaching the star sometimes before Messi even notices.

In his latest viral moment, Cheuko faced Lynch in a 1v1 challenge. The YouTuber tried to dribble past him three times, but each attempt ended the same way Cheuko tackling him to the ground within seconds and forcing a tap-out.

However, MLS authorities have since banned Cheuko from pitchside duty, claiming his presence was too “aggressive.”

Speaking to House of Highlights, the 35-year-old expressed frustration with the decision. “They don’t allow me to be on the field anymore. I was in Europe for seven years working for Ligue 1 and the Champions League, and only six people invaded the pitch. I arrived in the United States, and in 20 months of work, 16 people have already invaded the pitch.”

Cheuko urged MLS to improve security standards. “There’s a huge problem here. I’m not the problem. Let me help Messi. I love MLS and CONCACAF, but we have to work together. I have a wealth of experience in Europe. It’s fine, I understand their decision, but I think we could do better.”

According to reports, Messi’s protector earns around $3 million a year plus a $500,000 bonus if he completes the season without major incidents.

To Cheuko, Messi is more than a client. “I feel like I’m part of his family,” he said. “I’m working hard to protect him, not only physically but also psychologically, because he trusts me a lot and depends on me. He’s very humble.”

In the same video, Cheuko even showed off his football skills smashing a volley into the top corner before flexing in celebration.

Meanwhile, Messi continues his dominant form for Inter Miami, scoring 34 goals and providing 18 assists in 42 games. The Herons face Nashville SC this weekend before beginning their MLS Cup playoff push.
