Trent Alexander-Arnold has hinted he could be fit in time to face Liverpool next month, giving Real Madrid a major boost ahead of their Champions League reunion at Anfield.

The England international left his boyhood club in the summer in a £10million move to Real Madrid, with the La Liga side paying Liverpool to release him early so he could feature in the Club World Cup.

Since arriving in Spain, Alexander-Arnold has featured in ten matches, though his start has been mixed, with limited league appearances before suffering a hamstring injury during Real Madrid’s Champions League win over Marseille in mid-September.

Initially ruled doubtful for the clash with Liverpool, the 25-year-old was seen back in light training during the international break.

On Wednesday, he posted pictures on Instagram showing himself back on the pitch and giving a thumbs-up from the plunge pool, captioned: “Back soon,” with emojis suggesting his return is imminent.

[The Athletic reports] Real Madrid’s medical team are optimistic Alexander-Arnold could recover in time to feature in El Clasico against Barcelona later this month.

Real Madrid face Getafe on 19 October before games against Juventus and Valencia and then a trip to Anfield on 4 November, where Alexander-Arnold could make his long-awaited return.
