Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour found himself at the centre of global headlines and a Donald Trump one-liner during the Gaza peace summit in Egypt on Monday.

The UAE Vice and Deputy Prime Minister attended the talks alongside President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

World leaders gathered to discuss turning the Israel-Hamas ceasefire into lasting peace, but Trump’s remark about Mansour stole the spotlight. As they posed for photos, the former U.S. President quipped: “A lot of cash, unlimited cash… And he’s a good man, too!”

While football fans know Mansour for transforming Manchester City into a global powerhouse, his influence extends deep into finance, energy, and politics. Through the Abu Dhabi United Group, he holds senior positions across the UAE’s Central Bank, ADNOC, and Mubadala Investment Company.

Since his £210 million takeover in 2008, City have lifted eight Premier League titles, a Champions League, three FA Cups, and six League Cups reshaping modern football’s financial landscape.

Back in Manchester, the club’s £300 million Etihad Stadium expansion is set to push capacity to nearly 62,000, with a new hotel, TV studio, fan zone, and roof walk attraction expected to generate £70 million annually for the local economy.

However, the club remains under investigation for 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules. An independent hearing concluded in December 2024, with reports suggesting a verdict could arrive soon. City deny any wrongdoing and have already settled separate sponsorship valuation disputes with the league.

On the pitch, Pep Guardiola’s side are regaining momentum after early setbacks, with a seven-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. They next face Everton on October 18 before resuming their Champions League campaign against Villarreal on October 21.
