Kylian Mbappe has opened up on his close relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, revealing that the Portugal legend regularly offers him advice and guidance.
The France forward, who idolised Ronaldo as a child, completed his long-awaited move to Real Madrid in June 2024 and shared a viral Instagram post showing photos from their first meeting. Ronaldo commented: “Excited to see you light up the Bernabeu.”

Speaking to Universo Valdano, Mbappe said: “Cristiano has always been a role model, an example, for me. I’m lucky to be able to talk to him. He gives me advice, helps me… He’s the number one, the biggest reference at Real Madrid.”
Mbappe added that while Ronaldo remains an icon at the club, he wants to “forge my own path” and “do something historic with Real Madrid.”
The 26-year-old has made a blistering start to life in Spain, scoring 14 goals in 10 appearances across all competitions, including five in two Champions League matches. He also leads La Liga’s scoring charts with nine goals as Xabi Alonso’s side sit two points clear of Barcelona.

Mbappe’s form has continued on the international stage, scoring in his 10th straight game as France beat Azerbaijan 3-0 in World Cup qualifying.
Manager Didier Deschamps praised his captain’s impact, saying: “He has legs of fire, he’s confident, and his head is also fine. He’s totally committed and fully assumes his role as captain.”
Ronaldo, meanwhile, helped Portugal to a 1-0 win over Ireland, though he missed a penalty in their first home match since Diogo Jota’s passing. Ruben Neves scored the winner and paid tribute to Jota with a touching gesture.
Mbappe will miss France’s next qualifier against Iceland due to a minor ankle injury, while Ronaldo is expected to feature when Portugal face Hungary on Tuesday.
