Barcelona suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Sevilla, marking their first league loss of the season. Robert Lewandowski’s missed penalty in the second half denied the Catalan side a potential comeback, while defender Pau Cubarsi highlighted the team’s inefficiency in front of goal and urged his teammates to “push for more” in upcoming matches.

SEVILLA DOMINATES BARCELONA

Sevilla opened the scoring through Alexis Sanchez’s penalty before Isaac Romero doubled the lead. Marcus Rashford briefly revived Barcelona with a stoppage-time volley in the first half, but Lewandowski’s missed spot-kick proved costly. Late goals from Jose Angel Carmona and Akor Adams sealed a commanding victory for Sevilla and exposed Barcelona’s struggles at both ends of the pitch. This marked Barca’s second defeat in a week.

CUBARSI STANDS OUT DESPITE DEFEAT

Despite the heavy loss, Pau Cubarsi impressed with his composure and crucial defensive interventions. He also assisted Rashford’s goal with a precise through ball. Speaking after the game, Cubarsi reflected: “In the second half we had very good chances, but football is like that. We can’t let ourselves go as we did in the final plays. Looking ahead, we must focus on these mistakes and push for more.”

BARCELONA’S PRESSING ISSUE

Cubarsi stressed the importance of pressing like last season, adding: “The opponent’s chances actually start from the front line. I think we need to press like we did last season. It’s true that it’s just one match, and we shouldn’t overreact, but it’s also a turning point.”

INJURY WOES COMPLICATE FLICK’S PLANS

Barcelona’s injury crisis continues, with Lamine Yamal sidelined for 2-3 weeks due to a recurring pubic injury. Fermin Lopez, Gavi, and Joan Garcia are also unavailable, raising concerns ahead of the upcoming El Clasico. Coach Hansi Flick now faces the challenge of recalibrating his tactics during the international break before their next La Liga match against Girona on October 18.

BARCELONA IN THE TABLE RACE

Following this defeat, Barcelona sit second in the La Liga standings with 19 points, trailing rivals Real Madrid. The team will need to address both tactical and fitness issues to maintain their title challenge.
