Haaland’s banter highlighted the growing friendship between the pair, with the striker said to have taken the 21-year-old under his wing since his summer move from Lyon.

According to RMC Sport, Cherki has had a challenging start at City after suffering a quadriceps injury in August but returned to group training last week.

Before his injury, the French international made two Premier League appearances, scoring once, and impressed Pep Guardiola with his attacking creativity.

As City aim to continue their strong form in the title race, Haaland who has already netted 11 goals in eight games — is set to lead the attack against Brentford, while Cherki could make his return from the bench.
