According to Mundo Deportivo, De Jong will put pen to paper on October 15, the day after returning from international duty with the Netherlands. Only minor details such as bonus clauses remain to be finalised before an official announcement from the Spanish champions.

Barca sporting director Deco recently confirmed talks were on the verge of completion, underlining just how central De Jong is to the club’s project under Hansi Flick.

“Frenkie is really enjoying being here. If you’re a player with character, you don’t just want to stay at Barcelona, but to compete for titles — and he sees that he can,” Deco told Mundo Deportivo. “We see him as a key player for the current project and the years to come.”

De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 and has been a mainstay in midfield ever since, making over 200 appearances. Despite Premier League transfer rumours in recent windows, the Dutchman has opted to commit to the Blaugrana.

This season, the 26-year-old has already featured seven times across La Liga and the Champions League. After the Marc-André ter Stegen captaincy saga, De Jong has also stepped up as a leader on the pitch, reinforcing his importance in the dressing room.

The midfielder will first focus on international duty, with the Netherlands set to face Malta and Finland in Euro 2026 qualifiers. Once back in Spain, his new long-term deal with Barcelona is expected to be confirmed.
