Manchester City’s Champions League clash with AS Monaco ended in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night, with two red cards and a controversial late penalty sparking chaos in a 2-2 draw.

Erling Haaland gave City an early lead after latching onto Josko Gvardiol’s clipped pass and lobbing Philipp Kohn. But Monaco hit back just three minutes later through Jordan Teze’s precise strike from the edge of the area.

Haaland struck again before half time, heading in Nico O’Reilly’s cross to restore City’s advantage with his second goal of the night. The Norwegian made the most of his limited touches, scoring twice from just seven in the opening period.

Pep Guardiola’s men looked in control for much of the second half until late drama unfolded. Former Tottenham defender Eric Dier was struck in the face by substitute Nico Gonzalez inside the box, prompting furious appeals from Monaco.

Referee Jesus Gil Manzano initially waved play on but, after a VAR review, awarded the penalty. The decision sparked tempers on both benches, with multiple players involved in heated exchanges. Dier stepped up to slot home the equaliser, as the contest ended 2-2 with both sides reduced to 10 men.
