Ruben Amorim handed major Manchester United boost as Matheus Cunha injury fears ease ahead of crucial Manchester derby against Manchester City at the Etihad

Matheus Cunha injury boost for Man Utd

Ruben Amorim has been handed a major boost before the Manchester derby. Reports suggest Matheus Cunha’s injury is not as serious as feared.

The Brazilian striker limped off in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Burnley, raising concerns about a long absence. But fresh updates now bring optimism.

TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED

Cunha’s injury scare came early at Turf Moor. He struggled after just minutes and was forced off. His withdrawal sparked fears of a major setback, especially after he missed Brazil’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

THE GRAND SCHEME

According to The Sun, the injury is less severe than expected. Inside the United camp, there is belief the 26-year-old could return in time for the derby at the Etihad on September 14.

CUNHA STATEMENT

Later that evening, Cunha walked out of Old Trafford without visible discomfort. He reassured fans further on Instagram:

“What an incredible environment, it’s great to be here. I’ll be back soon, always with joy and gratitude. Thanks for all the messages.”

GIVE ME MORE INSIGHT

While Cunha’s progress is good news, another concern has emerged. Mason Mount picked up a knock during the Burnley clash. He lasted only half an hour before being replaced by academy product Kobbie Mainoo.

Mainoo impressed with his calm display, and Amorim may now consider starting him in the derby if Mount is unavailable.

WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD?

The derby will be a huge test for Amorim’s time at Old Trafford. Having Cunha back would be a major lift. But the manager faces a tough call—should he risk starting the Brazilian if he’s not fully fit? The decision could define United’s performance at the Etihad.
