Djed Spence Tottenham contract

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Djed Spence has signed a new long-term contract with the club, rewarding the defender for his impressive rise over the past year.

The 25-year-old right-back joined Spurs from Middlesbrough in 2022 but only established himself in the first team during the 2024–25 campaign. His breakthrough came last December when he made his full Premier League debut in a 5-0 win over Southampton.

Since then, Spence has become a reliable presence for Spurs, making 35 appearances across the season and scoring his first Premier League goal in February during a 4-1 victory against Ipswich Town. His strong performances even earned him a nomination for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award.

Key Role in Spurs’ European Triumph

Spence was also central to Tottenham’s Europa League success, featuring throughout the tournament as the North London club went on to lift the trophy in May. He further demonstrated his versatility by starting in last week’s UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain, where he played as a left wing-back in the narrow shoot-out defeat.

Just days later, he completed the full 90 minutes in Spurs’ 3-0 Premier League win over Burnley, further underlining his importance under new manager Thomas Frank, who is shaping his squad for his first full season in charge.

From Loan Spells to First-Team Regular

Before becoming a regular at Tottenham, Spence had loan spells with Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa, which provided him with valuable experience after initially struggling to break into the senior squad. His rise accelerated last season, particularly after Destiny Udogie’s injury, when Spence was trusted to step in on the left side of defence.

The club confirmed the new contract via their official website, describing Spence as a key part of their long-term project. This is the second time in less than a year that he has extended his deal, having signed a four-year contract in October 2024.

Tottenham will hope that Spence’s continued development strengthens their push in both the Premier League and Europe this season.
