Barcelona have been handed a setback after it was confirmed Marcus Rashford will miss Thursday’s Copa del Rey clash with Atletico Madrid because of a knee problem. The attacker suffered the injury during the recent match against Real Mallorca and will be absent for the first leg of the semi-final tie.
Hansi Flick admitted the update is “not good news”, especially with Raphinha also currently unavailable through injury.
There is optimism, though, that Rashford’s spell on the sidelines will be brief. According to Diario Sport, Barcelona’s decision to leave him out against Atletico is largely precautionary.
Rashford is still feeling some discomfort but did complete a gym session on Thursday as part of his recovery work.
Barcelona’s medical staff believe it is wiser not to take any unnecessary risks at this point in the campaign.
The expectation is that Rashford will rejoin full group training on Friday and could then be in contention for Barca’s next La Liga fixture against Girona on Monday night.
