Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has said there are no excuses for his recent dip in form and vowed to do everything he can to get back to his best for the title run-in.
Haaland made a vital contribution in City’s 2-1 win at Liverpool on Sunday, assisting Bernardo Silva’s equalizer and scoring a stoppage-time winning penalty. However, he acknowledged his performances leading up to the game had not met his standards.
“I haven’t scored enough goals since the start of this year, you can say, and I know I need to improve,” Haaland said. “I know I need to be more sharp, better at all of this, and this is something I have to work on.”
His penalty was only his third goal in 13 games across all competitions. Despite a congested schedule and accumulating the most minutes of his career, Haaland refused to cite fatigue as a reason.
“I don’t want to speak about why I haven’t performed. I don’t think there’s any excuse,” he said. “Fatigue is in the head. It’s a lot of games… for me, it’s about staying fit, don’t get injured. That’s the most important thing.”
