The draw for the Copa del Rey semi-finals has been conducted, setting up two heavyweight clashes for a place in the final.
Atletico Madrid will face Barcelona in a repeat of last season’s semi-final, while Athletic Club will take on rivals Real Sociedad in a Basque derby.
Barcelona advanced as heavy favourites after Real Madrid’s exit, needing a late goal-line clearance to beat Albacete 2-1. Atletico reached the last four with a dominant 5-0 win over Real Betis.
The Basque clubs both needed late winners, with Athletic defeating Alaves and Real Sociedad overcoming Valencia.
The tie between Atletico and Barcelona is a direct rematch from last year, which Barcelona won 5-4 on aggregate. The Basque derby was just played last weekend in La Liga, ending in a 1-1 draw.
The first legs are scheduled for February 10 or 11, hosted by Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano and Athletic Club at San Mames. The return legs will be played nearly a month later, on March 4 or 5.
