Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has publicly defended head coach Arne Slot, insisting the Dutchman deserves patience and backing during a challenging season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Van Dijk acknowledged that criticism of the team’s recent performances was fair but stressed the need to respect the ongoing process under the new manager.
“Criticism for the season we are having is well-deserved because of the way we have been playing at times,” Van Dijk said. “But you have criticism and you have disrespect. I’ve got asked the question last week about do I think the disrespect is well-deserved, and I don’t know.”
The defender emphasized that Liverpool is a club that trusts long-term projects. “We are in a process of things, and it takes time. From what I know, Liverpool is not a club of making rash decisions and they trust the process.”
He concluded with a firm endorsement of Slot. “I still feel that it’s a process. In my eyes, he deserves the respect and the chance to make sure that this process is going to end in a positive way.”
