Besiktas have identified Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier as a potential transfer target, with the Turkish window remaining open until Friday.
The Super Lig side have been assessing goalkeeping options after an approach for Leeds’ Lucas Perri was rejected last week. Chelsea’s Filip Jorgensen was also considered earlier in the window, but discussions failed to progress.
Besiktas have now turned their attention to Meslier, who has fallen down the pecking order at Elland Road.
The French goalkeeper was a key figure under Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds’ long-term first choice for several seasons as the club established itself in the Premier League. However, he has not played a single minute this season and is currently third choice behind Karl Darlow and Perri.
Meslier has only been named on the bench five times this campaign, with his last matchday squad appearance coming on November 29 in a 3–2 defeat to Manchester City.
The 25-year-old is out of contract in the summer, making a move appealing at this stage, although Leeds are conscious of maintaining adequate cover in goal.
Meslier has made 261 senior appearances, won two promotions with Leeds, and claimed the Championship Golden Glove in the 2023/24 season after keeping 19 clean sheets.
If a deal is agreed, he would join a Besiktas squad that includes Wilfrid Ndidi, Nottingham Forest loanee Jota Silva, and Aston Villa loanee Yasin Ozcan.
